Why DEI?
DEI represents an excellent opportunity to prospective candidates
due to three key factors: the work, the environment, and the compensation
/ benefits.
The Work
DEI is a professional services company with a core focus on developing
engineered solutions to emergent issuesprincipally for nuclear
power utilities. This can involve laboratory testing and product
development as well as technical analysis and expert consulting.
Because our focus is driven largely by our customers' continually
changing needs, the type of work that we do is constantly evolving
and spans a wide spectrum of technical areas. We consider the challenging
and dynamic nature of our work to be one of the great aspects of
working at DEI.
The Environment
DEI is a small firm with a predominantly horizontal organizational
structure, and we are able to leverage our small size and simple
structure to the advantage of our customers and our individual engineers.
Our small staffcombined with our technical skills and strengthsallows
senior and mid-level personnel to focus mainly on engineering work
rather than on administrative management. In addition, all engineers
are intimately familiar with the strengths and expertise of each
person in the firm. This allows us to form small, highly effective
teams of a few engineers for each project. Young engineers are given
little by way of formal training at DEIinstead, they grow
through their immersion in multiple technical projects combined
with the opportunity to work with experienced and knowledgeable
mid-level and senior engineers on these tasks. With a technical
staff of about 20, DEI is small enough that engineers are soon able
to be involved in all aspects of a projectfrom proposal writing
to detailed technical work to direct interfacing with clients. We
find this to be highly rewarding.
In addition to the expertise of our personnel, DEI offers an excellent
infrastructure in which to work, including new offices, an extensive technical library, and state-of-the-art
laboratory facilities. Engineers are provided
with the resources necessary not only to effectively carry out projects,
but to excel within our field.
The Compensation
DEI is able to offer a highly competitive compensation package,
which includes an annual bonus, paid medical insurance, an employer-funded
profit-sharing program, and a 401(k) retirement savings program.
The benefits offered by DEI are commensurate
with the high quality of the engineers on our team and the top graduates
we seek.
